    Incredible Shrinking Disease —Sanjay D'Souza
I finally got a copy of the 2000 LEGO Catalogue over the weekend, and in need of a good laugh checked out the City Center (Town) section. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but is the range slowly but surely decreasing? I'd say there are (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Brad Hamilton
I suspect that town sets don't appeal to children as much as some of the other "trendy" product lines like Star Wars. Town is probably seen as "booring." Kids want what they see on TV. I remember the early 90's catalogs when they had tons of town (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Jonathan Reynolds
(...) There may be truth in that but it does not explain why kids immediatley start building things they see in everyday life. It seems that someone, somewhere in Lego has taken advice that only trendy product lines will sell. Yes, kids (and the (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Michael Fetsko
(...) Sanjay, Here is a wishful thought! Maybe, just maybe they are going to bring back the "glory days" of our beloved line. 50 sets of pure construction with the return of the garage door and 4 new houses! Mike (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Mark Herzberg
(...) It actually all has to do with the market. The US City Centre range is 21 sets, and S@H still carries many discontinued models, bringing the total to over 30, probably because of lack of sales. The US train range continues with 11 sets, plus (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Jonathan Wilson
(...) Why don't you think they will do indian/persian/etc or Greco Roman? Also what about an oriental theme? They could do that (Oh wait a minute, they already did. it was called ninja and it sucked). -- Jonathan Wilson wilsonj@xoommail.com (URL) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Erik Olson
(...) There is also the full range of Disney properties to negotiate and license... (Shudder!) Lego has not yet done a superheroes line. (Hmm.. please bring out a bullet train for Superman to pick up..) I wonder if some kind of cyber-themed clone of (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Mark Herzberg
(...) The Disney line-up, arriving in July, will cover Mickey, Minnie and Friends. Although it uses SYSTEM/FABULAND elements, it is being marketed, at least in the US, as DUPLO. Older kids don't go for Mickey & Friends. And while Disney does have (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

<snip> (...) I would pay for that--but only if the included Mr. Toad's Wilds Ride. One of the more interesting ideas I've heard in awhile. Brian (bbq) Sauls (24 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Erik Olson
(...) Ar! Pirates of the Carribean returning under guise of the Town lineup! But is Disney World marketable worldwide? (Euro-Disney is a byword among US comics.) Imagine if Lego were working with Disney to do a just-in-time deluxe movie special (...) (24 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Mark Herzberg
(...) I would say so. There are four theme parks in Florida, and one each in California, Paris, and Tokyo. Plus, in 2001 new theme parks in California and Tokyo, another theme park in Paris in 2002 and a duo of theme parks for Hong Kong and Florida (...) (24 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Re: Incredible Shrinking Disease —Jonathan Reynolds
(...) I'd go along with that Erik. I went to Euro-Disney 2 weeks ago "for the kids" and although we had had enough of the tacky pretence by the third day, it is obviously a massive success story. Even in February with temperatures just above (...) (24 years ago, 8-Mar-00, to lugnet.town)

Fighting Incredible Shrinking Disease —Erik Olson
In lugnet.town, Jonathan Reynolds & Mark Herzberg say EuroDisney a success OK, no more Disney grumbling from me.
