The impending spread of the Clone Wars to the Outer Rim territories had the Republic looking for a breed of faster, lighter cruise ships that can be sent in advance for reconnaisance missions. The Republic Scout carrying six Advance Scout fighters made an immediate impact on the success of these missions.
