apollogies for the quality of the shots, my new digicam (xmas present) cant
take good close-ups & I didnt want to go through the hassle of using a film
camera then getting the flim developed then scanning the photos in. (the
module was canabalized for parts for the 6973 I was working on)
The module is basicly the command center for the moonbase, functioning as
Air Traffic Control, regulating moonbase fuctions like power,
communications & life-support and generally keeping the moonbase running

the whole module. The 2 little "base inspection flyers" next to it are used
to move around the outside of the moonbase and inspect for damage. The grey
things you can see on the back are the part that is like a ring and has 2
axleholes in it (from the UCS X-Wing). There are Transparent-Fluro-Orange
propellors in the middle of all 4 rings to provide some of the power to the
vechicles. More power is provided by the rockets underneath.
Now on to the module itself. The smaller transparent-dark-blue item on the
roof is the cooling vents for the IBM Model 5000 Mainframe that runs the
show. The larger transparent-dark-blue item is a radio device providing
communications with the entire moonbase. The big dome on the top is the
primary Air-traffic Controll Tower for the moonbase. As you can see, the
module rests on the ground with stairs leading up to the connector.

an out-of-focus view of the pilots of the BIFs. You can see the technic
beam holding the propellor sections on. The yellow things you can see near
the windscreens are the controlls for the BIFs. The black things making up
the body of the BIFs are the sloping cockpit parts seeen in some aquazone sets.

the commander of the moonbase arriving for work. He wears a space-suit to
protect him in the event of a loss of pressure in the moonbase. The only
access to the controll center is via an air-tight door that is closed and
locked at all times when people arent going through it and that can seal
shut in the advent of problems (loss of air, people going crazy or whatever
else) elsewhere in the moonbase. The commander has the only key to this
door (its a light grey Harry Potter key, cant see it in any of the photos I
took tho)

The interior of the base. Notice the large support columns holding the roof
up. Also note the reinforced bullet-proof, metior-proof toughened safety
glass windows. The large mass of black and yellow parts (covered in silver
grill tiles) is the IBM Model 5000 Mainframe. The small item near the top
above the Model 5000 is the backup system incase the Model 5000 fails.
However, since the Model 5000 has been operating without a single problem
since the day it was first shipped from the IBM assembly plant via lunar
shuttle, this backup system has never been used. The 2 small terminals at
the front of the Model 5000 are the only way to access the internal
software of the Mainframe (those of you that have seen the Y2K episode of
the Dilbert cartoon will understand the reference :)
On one wall of the control center, you can see video screens used to
monitor various things in and around the moonbase. Below those are the
controls and systems that regulate the operation of the moonbase.

This is the air traffic control tower. Note the ladder used to access the
tower and all the radar equipment being used to monitor all traffic into,
out of, through and within the airspace surrounding the moonbase. All
landings at and departures from the moonbase are controlled from here also
(thats what the grey, green and yellow control panel in the top is for)

| (...) great. With all those computers and panels, it compares nicely with the panels in my Module (ack! sorry, still haven't replaced the lost online images). I think it is cool that you included vehicles with the purpose of inspecting the exterior (...) (21 years ago, 6-Feb-03, to lugnet.space)
