Hi all,
i'm interested in using a Sony Clie N770 (Palm OS 4.1) to program my RCX
(RIS 1.5). I ran across pbForth in the book "The Unofficial Guide to
Lego Mindstorms" by Jonathan B. Knudsen. I downloaded pbForth.srec
(version 11/11/2001 22:08) from Ralphs pbForth site to my RCX using
nqc-win-2-4-r2. After downloading, the display should be blank, that's
what Knudsen says. Mine shows "4th". Probably that's because this is a
newer version of pbForth?
Now, on my Sony, i have a demo version of VT Online 1.5. According to
Knudsen and to some recent postings on this group i configured it to
method "serial", port "infrared", baud "2400", data bits "8", parity "n"
(none), stop bits "1", handshake "none". According to Knudsen, after
sending a "return", the RCX should display "ok". But nothing happens.
1) Any hint, how to get this to work? Are there any experiences /
instructions on programming a RCX using pbForth and a Palm PDA? Should i
use a different terminal program, a different pbForth version?
2) According to Knudsen, i have to remove batteries to stop pbForth
running on the brick. That not only stops pbForth but of course deletes
the firmware from memory.
a) Is there any way to stop and restart pbForth on the RCX without the
need to download pbForth each time? As i said, i'm interested in using
only the Palm PDA to program the brick (after one initial download of
the firmware using the PC).
b) Is there any way to download the firmware using the PDA? Is there a
firmware downloader available for Palm OS? Or where can i find the
sources of a firmware downloader and how can i compile them for Palm OS?
Thanks for any hints.
Regards,
Christian

| (...) Well, for starters, the RCX uses a different modulation scheme on the IR port, but these guys have a C solution... (URL) You'll need a Palm SDK and some patience. Is there any or some interest in getting this for the Palm? I'm having trouble (...) (23 years ago, 5-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)
