Another couple of reasons:
If the 'Reply-To:' header is set to the list, then the probability goes way
up that auto-reply handlers (i.e, "I'm on vacation" notices and so fort) will
find their way to the list when they should have gone instead to the original
author of a message.
Another problem with setting 'Reply-To:' to the list is that it Just Wasn't
Meant To Be Used That Way. The 'Reply-To:' header is for giving a more
official/correct/canonical e-mail address than what appears in the 'From:'
header. For example, you might set your Reply-To to be
Reply-To: "Barney Rubble" <brub@bedrock.edu>
because the stupid mailer at your school insists on sending
From: "Barney Rubble" <brub@mail.bedrock.edu>
Some people also do this:
From: "Barney Rubble" <brub@SPAMLESS.bedrock.edu>
Reply-To: "Barney Rubble" <brub@bedrock.edu>
