Maybe try this: join diagonally a 2x2x1 round flat plate (without studs)
with 3x1x1 plate. It's the easiest solution, not a perfect one, but I find
this better than using an oar, or cutting the Lego... I think that
sticker with hole and strings would help here a lot.

I have made a third design that uses a piece not available in Ldraw:

Take a 2x2 round plate
Take one of those pieces that are used by runway guys at airports to wave
down the airplanes.  See:

attach the piece to the round plate, and attach a grille tile on top as a
fret board.
