Hello, I'm not sure if you remember me, but I used to be pretty active
here before.

About six months ago, I entered a short "dark age" but now I want to
start building again, and posting on Lugnet.

Great to see someone come out of their "dark age", even though it was
relatively short compared to others. I has a short dark age myself. Guess I
never could get over building spaceships. :)

However... I picked up the 2002 catalog to see what's happening in the
world of LEGO, and I was disappointed (to put it *very* mildly).

Ha! Same here! I got a fresh copy of the 2002 catalog in my mailbox, and
I can't say I was impressed at all. Have you seen those new jack stone
and bionicle sets? I, personally, though, enjoy the Harry Potter sets,
they're great in supplement to the castle theme! (only for parts, though.)

Is it even worth to start building again? Should I even bother? Will it
get any better, or is the end near for LEGO?

Of course it is, just not from any new 2002 set (save for those new EPII sets
and the legends, and of course, parts from your old collection!) Just to
clarify, I haven't bought a Lego set from the storw in TWO years! And guess
what, I'm getting along just fine. I guess it just takes a bucket of bricks
to get you back on track.

Reading the catalog only made me depressed. What's it like here on
Lugnet? Are people still active and serious?

Throw it away, then. I used mine for packaging materials. Just pop it into
the shredder, and presto, instant packaging paper. (ah! the use for catalogs!:)

But, on a less humorous side, sure! Lugnet is still active and serious as we
ever have been. Nobody is letting the new 2002 line get to their heads. It's
all just a matter of finding what you like, and building from there. I.e,
there weren't many good castle or space sets this year, so to supplement my
castle, I picked up a few of those Harry Potter sets, and combined parts
from those with a few older parts, and I got something quite interesting!

Just my two brickz...

(...) Yeah. I agree. There's some good stuff online, and hey, I've grown up with late 1990's and 2000's Legos, and I'm doing fine. If you can afford it, try bricklink or ebay! Parts are doing pretty good this year: lots of sets with nice parts. (...) (22 years ago, 14-Apr-02, to lugnet.people)
