Badge, MOC Cards, and Brick Bazaar Forms are Now LIVE!
I am happy to announce that registrants can now edit their badges on their
BrickFest account. Unlike previous years, BrickFest 2006 has a new design:
Attendees can edit their name, hometown, and affiliation in the three bricks
under the clapboard. And yes, its hinged!
MOC Cards are also online, so registrants can log in their models! This year we
are encouraging the attendees to print their MOC cards at home - so there is no
hard deadline (The deadline on our website is the date we will be collecting all
the MOC card files for Theme Coordinators). The MOC Card this year looks like
this:
If you are bringing in a large MOC (larger than 2 grey baseplates - 30 - 96
studs or larger), please send an e-mail to me or the appropropriate Theme
Coordinator. If you want to sell items at BrickFest, you can now fill out a
Brick Bazaar form online on your account. With the public hours extended,
theres a great opportunity to sell parts and sets, so sign up now! Call for
Presentations If you want to do a presentation or seminar, you can sign
yourself up through your account on the BrickFest site now. If you have
submitted a presentation already, please resubmit, as the software was not ready
until last week, and any submissions were not sent. I apologize for the error.
Theme Coordinators Announced BrickFests 2006s Theme Coordinators are
(in no particular order): Town/Train: Scott Lyttle and Robin Werner
Space: Dan Rubin and Fradel Gonzales
Mecha: Jeff Stembel
Castle: Cyndi Bradham and Ben Ellermann
Micro/Vignette: Scott Quirk
Technic: Bryan and Kathie Bonahoom
Mindstorms Challenges: John Barnes
Great Ball Contraption: Steve Hassenplug and the GBC Gang (why does that sound
like a rock band?) Sculpture/Mosaic: Derek Schin
Free Build: Patricia Van Dyke and Augie Thiessing
There are still some open slots, so if you want to be a Theme Coordinator or a
volunteer and are attending, drop me a line!
BrickFest Contest Announcements
The first announced contest for BrickFest is a Steampunk Contest hosted by the
Space Theme Coordinators.
For those who are unfamiliar with steampunk, this is a fan theme that is also
called Victorian Science - what if machines were run on steam power, as opposed
to the modern internal combustion engine? Instead of airliners, dirigibles were
the method of flight, for example, with winged craft being very new
contraptions. The Steampunk contest will have the following categories:
Best land vehicle Best sea vehicle Best air vehicle
Best structure (includes floating rocks)
This will be a judged contest, and prizes are to be determined.
And I think thats it for this update - the next one will have merchandise!
Later,
Joe Meno

Keynote, Registration, Logo and Odds and Ends
Keynote Speaker Confirmed
Im proud to announce that the keynote speaker this year is Tormud Askildsen
of LEGO Community Development. He has been one of the many people in the LEGO
Group responsible for growing the bond between the community and TLG, and Im
happy to have him speak to the community about community! BrickFest
Registration Open The registration webpage for BrickFest 2006 is now open! Attendees from previous
Fests can log in their old account and register for this one, which looks to be
the best BrickFest yet! You can either register directly, or register from the
venue
website, the Sheraton Premiere Tysons Corner. Because of the venue change, we
will have to cap registrations to 400 total, so register early! New Event
Graphic for Brickfest 2006 Presented Theres also an Event Graphic for
BrickFest 2006, designed by Jim Green! The logo is based on the theme of this
years Fest: Hollywood! From action movies to drama, from special effects to
actors, BrickFest 2006 will be placing everything in a cinematic context,
including an awards night that will be like the Academy Awards, though hopefully
not as long:-)! Look for merchandise with this logo and theme soon at the
BrickFest website, and look for this masthead for the latest news from
BrickFest! Calls for Coordinators And while most of the themes for
BrickFest have Coordinators, we are still in need of a few: Micro/Vignette,
Technic (a new position), and Bionicle. Attendees interested in being part of
the event can drop me a line! The Coordinators will be officially announced soon
- many are at work planning displays and more! Is there more coming? You
better believe it! As we get closer to showtime, Ill be posting updates on
BrickFest - and theres a lot that will be happening! Comments and questions?
Drop me a line! Til next update, Joe Meno Event Coordinator, BrickFest
2006

(Breezes through Lego's pictures http://www.lego.com/legostores/Default.asp?x=x)
Huh, what's the deal with Illinois? They've got "Woodfield, IL" and "Schaumburg,
IL" as two different stores, despite the fact that they point to the same store!
(Woodfield looks like it immediately bounces you to the Schaumburg page).
Interestingly, it doesn't look like they've updated the store locator with the
new stores yet (have they added any other new ones?). I notice that MA's new
Natick store isn't represented-- I think it's been around for... uh... almost a
month and a half now?

Mark,
You can find pictures of most of the store fronts on the LEGO.com site using the
store locator. Of course these pictures are property of LEGO.com but if you
asked nicely they might let you use them for your site....never hurts to ask.

Hello everybody!
While I was checking out the newest Lego store in Ontario, CA (ok, getting
the opening bricks would be a better term) I thought it would be nice to try
to get a basic picture of the front of each Lego store that has issued a
store-opening brick to link to on the Lego Store page of my site. Sadly, I can not travel the world to snap
pictures of each storefront so I am calling out for help.
This is what I am looking for:
http://www.promobricks.com/img/ontariomillslegostore.jpg
Nothing fancy, just something that shows off the front of the store in an
image that can be about that size. Of course - full photo credit would go to
you (that pic only has my URL on it because I took the picture).
If you can help me out you can send me mail at my email listed in the header
of this post, or on the header of any page on the
site. If you do email me please name the email Lego Store Picture or
something along these lines so I will not miss it. Another option is to reply
to this post (of course please set the follow up to reflect the location of
the store)
Thank you for any and all help!

It is probably worth mentioning that some malls do not allow pictures to be
taken inside the mall, and even if some malls do allow them, individual stores
can still say no. I know this from experience.
