All,
In January of 2004, I put together an internal roadshow where I traveled to a
number of LEGO offices and introduced (and in some cases, re-introduced) the
AFOL to colleagues.
As part of this roadshow, I put together a number of materials (this is where
the AFOLs comic was born), including a pretty cool video montage of various AFOL
event clips. It was rough, and my video production skillz could be better, but
it got the job done. (Id post it for you to see, but its 60MB, and I dont
have a server to handle that bandwidth)
Id like to start making this video a habit at the beginning of each year. And
as I start to prepare for this years internal roadshow, Id like to call for
video clips from you that youre willing to share.
Please email me (jake AT lego DOT com) if you have clips youre willing to share
either online or via CD/DVD through the mail.
Im looking for just about any type of clip from 2004:
- News broadcast spots
- Collage videos of events (rtlToronto style)
- Clips of club meetings or shows
- Interviews of your club members talking about 2004
- Anything else you have on hand
The higher quality the better.
Thanks so much and heres looking forward to a wonderful 2005.

Jake has sent me the video to host for the community to see:

Thanks for posting that Calum.
As you'll be able to see, it's a good amateur effort, but certainly not "good".
Got the job done very effectively though, and I suppose that's all that counts.
(Can you see the perfectionist in me coming out??)

It's a wonderful job to get the point across--people at work were very impressed
at the detail and the fun that we AFOL's seem to be having in the videos. Yep,
not just for kids...

Hm, I've saved the file twice, and both time Windows Media Player 9 said it was
corrupt. Since I am running Win2K, I can't upgrade to WMP10.
I can play it by clicking the link, but I'd like to save it locally.
Ideas?

Great video Jake but one recommendation to make it better next time would be to
edit me out entirely :-). I am good at a lot of things but "spokesman" is not
one of them. I thought it was interesting in the different contributions you
got. The Canadian clubs had great video of their MOC's and Events. We, NELUG,
did the stand up thing without MOC's at all and others submitted TV footage.
It definitely inspires me to do more video at our shows.

Ha! Actually, I put you in because you made a great point. As you can tell from
watching the video overall, there was clearly a message being delivered.

Yeah, it was wonderful to have all the different types of video. I'd actually
like to do these kinds of "update" videos and get them out on the internal
intranet on a regular basis (at least twice a year), but that requires source
material! :)

Thanks, but I'll skip downloading yet another program to do so.
As it turns out, I connected using CuteFTP (which I already have, using it for
all my domain updates), and it downloaded it fine.

All the video I submitted was actually shot by local TV stations here in the
Raleigh area, I didn't submit anything I have shot on my own. Two of our
clips made it into the video although my TV interview was cut before I
started speaking![1]
The only suggestion I would make would be to include names (as subtitles) of
the people who appear in the video so we can know who is who.

background on how it came to be, read this article:

Nothing personal :)

Well, the target was colleagues, so I thought names would be a bit of overload.
Maybe what would make more sense is to post "show notes" here with the names of
everyone in the clip.

I've got Win2K, did the right click and "save as", and it worked just fine.
Hm...have you tried a divx player? I've used that before when a video wouldn't
work--and the divx player played it just fine.
