Well, it wasn't in the list, but if you want a true 'legend' from the past that

Seriously.

It's a beautiful set in its simplicity and elagance.  I'm sure the tires are
adaptable, the headlight bricks can be stickers, and the ladder--well, whatever
production ladder can be substituted.

It's a relatively 'small' set with lotsa basic pieces, and is going waaaaaay
back to the early '70's--to me this is more 'Legend' than any other set offered.

imho

I'm with you on that, Dave. That was my first big set (not counting the
collections of bricks) and I remember it fondly. Those 1 x 8 arches were a major
step in the architecture department, and opened up many possibilities.

I would also suggest http://guide.lugnet.com/set/370 the police headquarters.
But here's the point for me: I'd like to see the original pieces, not
substitutes. I'm thinking of the ladder in the Fire Station and those clear
doors in set 370. And, of course, the antennae in both. This is part of their
legendary appeal for me. Those who missed out the first time should have the
chance to have some of these. I still have my collection and my nephews, nieces
and grandson are always amazed at the old pieces and want to know where they can
get them.

Anyway, I know this is veering into pipedream land and the cost of reproducing
those parts is surely prohibitive, but we can still dream....

Peace and reminiscence,

Professor Whateverly

That door piece was used as recently as the re-issue of the Fort Legoredo
so its definatly within the relms of possibilitiy.

But, there are other parts in that set that make it less likely to re-appear:
the "TV" antenna
the baseplate (dont know if they could still make 24x40 size or if they
could put the dots on it)
the brick 2 x 2 with wheels
the 1 x 3 x 4 door + frame
the armless figures (would you want regular figs instead?)
and a few others

Anyhow, I am sure there are plenty of sets out there that dont use grey/dk
grey/brown or only use them in a few small places.

Even in classic space there are sets with next-to-no grey (like the 6881
Lunar Rocket Launcher sitting on the desk in front of me :)
