LEGO Dreams
[Ten years from now:]

* When people design or remodel their homes, they will make having a LEGO
room a requirement much like many people now have media rooms.
Elaborating further:

Perhaps one of the Architects or similarly talented people in the AFOL
community will design the ultimate LEGO room for an AFOL.  Everything from a
building tables to the storage system and lighting.  Browsing the web I've
seen some very impressive LEGO rooms

Greetings, Earth Mortals!

Though I live in an apartment and can only dream of this right now, it is
something I'm seriously considering for when Ginger and I get a home of our own.
I've for a long time kept a text file listing things I want to see in this, and
have doodled some actual ideas.  I haven't yet uploaded pics of these ideas, but
here's the text file:

Environment:
recessed lighting where appropriate for ambiance
general lighting - soft white fluorescent
dust filtration
flat, light neutral-colored carpeting that allows cart rolling
stereo (no TV)
(hands-free) communication with other areas of house - intercom
close confluence of design / storage / construction areas - like kitchen
triangle
good air flow

Storage:
Main Storage Area:
bins cabinets - rotating and / or inset with closing doors
upright slots for baseplates
shelving for tubs
accomodation for varying parts sizes
Auxiliary storage around room in easily-accessible available spaces
parts bins
labelled on ends with part number, description, and picture
completely enclosed boxes
can be moved without fear of losing parts, but accessed easily
can be pulled as needed to create a 'bin pallette'

Design:
desk area
computer setup with nice monitor & printer
well-lit
drawing / drafting / small assembly area with open wall bins
notebook / paper / catalog / book / CD storage

Construction:
large central island table
light neutral color to allow easy viewing
'catch-all' depression around all edges
chair / stool access to table on all sides
2'-6" to 3'-0" edge to center for reachability
rectangular / long oval shape
rolling work table / cart
brightly lit from top center
overhead storage around lighting like in kitchens
shelving
bin space for frequently-used parts bins

Photography:
main worktable
recessed photo niche with controlled lighting

Display:
shelves around top edges of walls
some glass-enclosed for permanent storage

Please grow this is you will; I plan on actually designing the space one day,
and will post plans when I get them made.  Until then, play well!

Peace and Long Life,
Tony Alexander

FUTs to:
lugnet.storage - since this is where this subject is most often brought up
and to:
lugnet.build.arch - since this seems an architectural design problem.

LEGO Dreams It was nearly 10 years ago that Dan Parker, Steve Barile and I sat around a table dreaming of things that may be. Wouldn't it be cool if we could talk directly to LEGO? Influence product designs? Have LEGO clubs all over the country (...) (19 years ago, 31-Aug-05, to lugnet.general, FTX) !!
