Whenever this happens, I've currently got two templars[1] to send.
Jason
[1] Mage-types with causes, attuned to the subtle social and spiritual patterns
that are used to determine fate[2], able to use warrior weapons.
[2] Okay, reading this over, they kinda sound like Jedi. I guess I just think
the force[3] is a really neat idea. :)
[3] Minus midichlorians. *bleh!* What are these, computer-generated musical
notes you use to disinfect your pool?

Do these templars have any realation to the templars of Starcraft? If you've
ever played it.

Heh. I may be the only computer gaming geek that hasn't. :)
Well, the High Templars in Starcraft are described as psionic aliens capable of
emitting storms of psionic energy and hallucinations, and two of them can join
to make a stronger creature (an Archon).
I modelled my human templars more after a combination of Star Wars Jedi, and
the templar character class in the MUD I play (www.thresholdrpg.com). The MUD
templars are mages which have sacrificed some types of spells in order to be
able to wield weapons. Like Jedi, my templars can manipulate the world around
them, but using magical rather than psionic principles (but NO midichlorians,
yuck).
Another important characteristic is that each (non-starcraft) templar has a
cause, a set of goals that they actively strive for. There are some pretty
horrific evils lurching, shambling, and creeping through my realms, and the
templars are one of the most potent forces keeping them in check.
