I've now also modified my trebuchet to use two weighted bricks in the
counter-weight.  Here it is cocked, loaded, and ready to fire:

It now throws in the 12-14 foot range, which is a respectable 175-200
yards in mini-fig scale.

As I mentioned I wanted to do in my other post, I've changed to a braided
sling pocket and it made a big difference, both in ease of setup and
distance.  It now throws about 6 feet.  Time to see what sling length and
end hook gives the best performance before I change how the weight on the
arm is distributed.

Hey Brian,

Very nice trebuchet!  I saw that show too and loved it.  You can buy copies
of it off of their website.  Anyway, your rendition is very cool.  I am
thinking of building one too after all this talk about them.  But now I will
be a copycat! :)  How far does it throw that soccer ball?  I built a wooden
trebuchet out of 2x4s right after I watched that show (and read about in the
Smithsonian).  But I couldn't get the weights right.  Oh well, I will have
to try again this summer.

In the US we have a public television program called Nova.
They had a cool show on trebuchets.  Check out details here:

I saw that show and have just completed a trebuchet based on one of the
designs in it.  Here are some images of it:

A weighted brick is used as the counter-weight, but I think I may rebuild
the trebuchet a little larger and use 2 weighted bricks side-by-side.

I like my simple release trigger mechanism and how I kept the beams of
the A-frames inline rather than overlapped.
