Whether this item is used in Datsville or not, I felt that LEdit/LDraw users
could use an intermodal transport system. To this effect, I have built a TOFC
or a flatcar with a trailer mounted aboard it. You should notice that the
trailer is easily compatible with the rigs in the official set #6393 - Big Rig
Truck Stop. This is due to the fact that one of them has been modified to be a
replica of Optimus Prime. The trailer is a greatly toned down edition of his.
It should be about 9-10 bricks high in itself and should easily clear ALL
Texas-style traffic signals and street lights built and submitted by myself.
Eventually, I will design "decals" to place on the side of the flatcar, making
it a real Trailer-Train/TTX Corporation TOFC. The design for this intermodal
unit features it carrying a trailer with "German" markings, but the size (45')
stripe can be modified to suit any country with a three-horiz.-striped flag
(Russia, Byelorussia, Holland, Nigeria(?), Botswana, non-communist Yugoslavia,
etc.).
Each of these are separate models/subparts. Treat them as such.
Here is the file for a piece every (Amer.) train builder should have, the
wheels!

Now here is the Trailer for this model. In LEdit, Change the "flag" colors on
the front stripe of the trailer if you wish to. #277 is a purple w/a blue
majority. All pieces with this color should match if you decide to change
colors.

FINALLY, here is the TOFC unit, employing both the wheel/coupler shortcut and
the trailer, which can be removed for an empty unit. Copy and paste each of
these as seperate .DAT files and happy building!

Whoops! Error in my in the final .DAT file. It is corrected in this copy. I
elected to change the trailer's final color. In case it shows up hollow, #391
is a mixture of the two grays.

In lugnet.cad.dat.models, James Jackson writes:

Eventually, I will design "decals" to place on the side of the flatcar, making
it a real Trailer-Train/TTX Corporation TOFC. The design for this intermodal
unit features it carrying a trailer with "German" markings, but the trailer >extension piece can be modified to suit any country with a three horizontally >striped flag (Russia, Byelorussia, Holland, Nigeria(?), Botswana, >non-communist Yugoslavia, etc.), or just be a really cool design.
Each of these are separate models/subparts. Treat them as such.
Here is the file for a piece every train builder should have, the wheels!

<snipped dat>

Well, I am not sure what this is, but it is not a TOFC IMHO. Until the
last step I thought it was kind of "roadrailer"-ish. But that big yellow
front part baffles me. Either that or LDLite is displaying it wrong...

A TOFC is a conventional flat car with a trailer on it. Hence the name,
Trailer On Flat Car. TOFC cars are set up with fake fifthwheels and
tiedown chocks to allow one or more trailers to be placed on them. For a
long time TOFC cars were the most popular sort of intermodal, and a
standard had evolved for them of 89 feet, which allowed two "standard"
40 foot trailers to be loaded on them. But then trailers got longer and
now we have shorty spine cars that are about 55 or 60 feet that can take
one 40, 45, 50 or 52 foot trailer.

A roadrailer is a highway trailer with (some provision for) rail wheels.
Generation one had one rail axle behind the highway wheels. At the front
of the trailer is a tongue that can mate with a slot of the trailer in
front. The very first trailer mates to a special truck or some other
arrangement.

Generation two has a hardmount for a rail axle or bogie but doesn't
actually carry the wheels around with it when on the highway, it
mate-demates in the piggyback yard.

Well, I am not sure what this is, but it is not a TOFC IMHO. Until the
last step I thought it was kind of "roadrailer"-ish. But that big yellow
front part baffles me. Either that or LDLite is displaying it wrong...

LDLite isn't displaying it properly.  This happens with certain MPD files, but
I don't know why.  I'd suggest downloading it and using one of the programs
that splits .mpd files to view it correctly.

P.S.  This is the main reason I support Inlining small files.

Actually, this was meant to be 3 separate autonomus files. Just Copy & Paste
one, save it as the filename listed on line 2, then do the same to the second,
then the third. If LDLite can't receive colors #277 and #391, Then find a
compromise in LDLite. 277 is the same as blue-violet, 391 is a charcoal gray
that is lighter than 8 (like raw silicon).
I usually only inline with minifigs. When I made the wheels, it took me a while
to get the assembly so I made a shortcut. Like I said, I made the first trailer
from modifying the flatbed in #6393. I had to knock a brick-height off of it to
make it this size. (1 brick-height = 24 LDU.)

You may want to put your files into the MPD format so that people can view the
models without cutting and pasting[1].  Just put
0 FILE filename.dat
as the first line of eac of your DAT files when you post them, or use M-Peedy
to compile all of a model's sub-models into one MPD file.
