OK, I made another mech. This has been in the works for a long, long time (maybe nine months) basically waiting for inspiration. I finally worked out a leg design a few days ago and managed to finish it off.

The idea for how to do the semicircle was cribbed from Mladen. Help from Selcuk Gore and Soren Roberts.

I’m not 100% sure this will stand but I really have no means of testing it. I do have ideas for alternative solutions for the risky joints (rear toes and ‘knees’) but figured I’d take the risk in the CAD rather than losing some detail.

Comments and crits welcome,

Tim

I’m not sure about some of those joints either, but regardless, this thing is freakin awesome!

I haven’t been impressed by CAD for a while. This one rocks! I like the color too; it’s subtle and works. The semi circle design really looks good. Stick your Fuchi in with it.

Was admiering it on Brickshelf. Fantastic work, I like all the details! Being a fan of GitS doesn’t make it less impressive. :)

yay, I can post again...

Great work Tim! It looks very faithful to the original, especially with regard to the details.

The only problem is that it’s a bit too big. I can understand this is due to the level of detail you wanted to show... BUT I’m thinking, why constrain yourself to scale in the first place? Why not build it as big as necessary to make it even closer to the original?

I say this only because the legs look a bit chunky and blocky... What if you used those new curved slopes and wedges on the legs to make them more curvaceous? If they end up scaling up the entire mecha, who cares?... You can always go for a maxi-fig, UCS scale! :-D

LOL, anyways, maybe I’m just too excited with being able to post again, and rambling on.

Good stuff. Keep it up!

First off, thanks everyone for your comments. This has been a long time in the works and I’m glad people like it.

The size... well... I was trying to build it to fig scale. I actually realised last night that it had ended up too big when I noticed it should sit much lower over the car. With this realisation I may have to have a go at shrinking the whole thing. Hopefully won’t be too hard (but probably will).

Glad you can post again.

Tim
