Friends, Welcome to my building arena!

Happy New Year, to all of the builders, and especially our host!
What a way to start a year! Fantastic!

play IRON MECHA as of Dec 31, 2005. It is my hope that this be an enjoyable,
exciting, and challenging experience for us all. Lets meet the challengers:
(note, if I missed your notice to participate, please remind me immediately.
Ive done my best to catch all the requests, but if I missed any I sincerely
apologize. Just begin the build and remind me.)

It is the intent of IRON MECHA to be a contest of ingenuity, artistry, and
skill. The image that I will provide shortly is meant as a guide. It is to
inspire you to build a mecha. I encourage you to push yourself and build a
mecha that speaks to you.
As with the TV program of a similar name, IRON CHEF the cook off is seen by
all. That is simply not possible in this arena. BUT I ask that you please
provide links to your progress, as you are able. It allows people to see how
a mecha is made, allows for some banter amongst the contestants and audience,
helps our judges understand your build a little more throughly, and adds to
the flavor of the contest. There will be no demerits if you do not show
progress pics. And it might just help you push yourself to try things you
may otherwise never think of or try building something you never knew how to
build. An alternative measure is to post false pics of your build and make
for a dramatic reveal at the end. (I after all will not be checking)
|
Ill post pics of all attempts. And Im hoping to see a lot of progress pics.
|
Along these lines, I am hoping that this thread can become a venue for asking
questions. If you are trying to achive a joint or other mecha tech and
cant seem to figure it out, ASK! You might just get the push to tackle a
tricky build technique.
|
My main motive to take part was to learn from the other builders,
and to share what I know on building mecha.
|
Now, I thank you for your attention and I give you what Im sure youve been
waiting for with abated breath. I present to you, my IRON MECHA builders...
a Quadruped!
You will note a few things: the image is a kind of rough artwork. This is
deliberate. Part of the challenge is to see what you will do with the image.
Will you replicate it as accurately as possible? Or use it as a rough base
to build off of? What will you, the IRON MECHA builder put into the void not
shown? We eagerly wait to see what you do.
|
I wanted to do a quadra for quite a while, but never took the challenge. Thank
you for pushing me!
Im just printing the pic, to take it to my sons room where all the bricks are!

Let the building begin!
Good luck to everybody.
Lets have fun together!
Marco
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Hi all together.
Due to brick and time amount I decided to go for a medium mecha.
As I never tried a quadruped before, Ive done some research on the legs.
Here are some pictures of several approaches for the leg concept. At the
moment all for legs are different.

after moderation.
Keep building and posting

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Hello, its me again.
Here are some pictures of my progress and the upper body.
Here is the gallery
after moderation.
I already ran into weight problems. The ball joints in the lower body dont
support the weight anymore. Ill replace them with gears. This means a
complete rebuild of the lower body. Hopefully itll fit the original shape
a bit more afterwards.
The upper body is still in a conceptional state. Maybe itll look very
different next time.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Last night I had a dream...
Not what you might think, it was of a small robot.
So this morning I gave it a good hour. And this is the result so far:
So now Im thinking what to do. Should I maybe refine the small one or
should I work further on the medium I first started with.
Well see

Wow. This is definitely my favourite so far.
Very cool!

Marco,
This is a gem of a build. I love the color pattern, the compactness of the
Mecha and the brillance of the pneumatic t pieces are joints.
What more can be refined? Your done!

Thanks for the roses, but this is quite common. I saw it many times before,
and now even TLC is using this technique in the viking set with the wolf.
(BTW, excellent resource for 9 t pieces puls 9 droid arms per set!)

Im not quite satisfied with the rocket launcher.
There is still a medium size implementation Im working on.
At the moment I try to upsize the joint tech used here to this bigger MOC.
Marco
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Here is my progress report.
Im still working on a medium size mecha. The leg joints have been totally
redesigend again. I also worked on the upper body and the weapons.
More pics after
moderation
Im still not done. And whats worse: Im still not satisfied with the overall
look!
Its gonna be a hard weekend
