when our lug required a quick infill for our annual display at railfair last october, i made this double decker house with dance studio and ballroom.

again, it was loosely based on a house i had seen for a brief moment on a renovation/extreme homes show. if i recall correctly, there was a dance studio in the bottom level of the home and it was situated in australia, but i didn’t see/remember enough of the details to make an exact replica and i prefer not to replicate something exactly, anyway, so i was able to use what pieces i had as much as possible.

the main living space of the house is kitchen, living/dining and bedroom/bathroom. the second living space houses a guest room and the spa/pool area. the lower levels house on one side a large open ballroom for dance performances and large group lessons, and on the other side a double dance studio with ballet bar and see through space to the clear sided pool. a deck ties the two living spaces together.

the 360° views provide little privacy but in my mind there are no neighbours for miles around, and each window probably has its self-inclosed blinds for those inclined to need them.

the biggest challenge was to design an entrace door on the upper levels that would not interfere with the window design. and again, in my imaginary world, these doors might work with hydraulic lifts to raise them up and fold out of the way for passage through, probably by remote button control. i am not an engineer, and suspect this door design would not pass any safety code, nor be entirely practical, and probably not possible. but in my little lego world, who cares?

many thanks to those lug members who saved me from very expensive bricklink orders to complete it on time by lending me pieces which i didn’t own! the only thing i really cheaped out on was the mirror in the ballet/dance studio. i didn’t like the solution of piecing many mirror stickers together to get a full mirrored wall, so i used tin foil. it looks awful and i’m not happy with it, but it’ll have to do for the life of the moc.

enjoy.

(...) Snipped Enjoyed, I did. By far, this is one of my favourite MOCs of yours, from the style and the colour combinations right down to the tiny details. The dark tan, tan and black look stunning together and the yard is nicely landscaped. But (...) (16 years ago, 25-Mar-08, to lugnet.build.arch, FTX)
