Thanks Matthew for suggesting that white slip gear!
A while ago there was a lot of thunder and lightning and I unplugged the
computer and worked on my 8448 car while waiting for the kids to clean up the
kitchen so we could eat. I put a second 8-tooth gear on the rack gear (left
the steering wheel one alone) and ran a 12-stud axle from that through a couple
of beams and toward the front of the car.
Then I put a 24-t gear on the other end of the axle, and put a 9v gear motor
above it, but facing backwards, using one of those white slip gears that come
with the new motor, so the gears mesh. Oh, for a digital camera...... The
gears contact each other about 2 cm in front of the "cooling fan" attached to
the engine. Now that the storm's over, I can try and program it. Of course I
could only do this because I pulled off most of the red body-decor pieces to
have room to figure out what I was doing. I never liked body-work much anyway.

| Congradulations, Your solution to steering sounds much simpler and direct than my design. Hope you can take a picture so we can see it. Quite a challenge. right? Bob Fay Karen Gold <kjgpinelake@yahoo.com> wrote in message (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

| I have to reverse my comments regarding the micromotor for this car. This car is too heavy and the tires to wide for the power of the micromotor. I have just completed the steering using the type ll motor. You can take a look at (URL) would like to (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)
