Hi all,

The first of the 2003 lineup is the HopLab.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=31765

It is a quick hop lander with mobile lab and scanning equipment.

A ship that the Lego Space Command split into two vehicles in the Classic
Space Age. Combining the hoppin' tech of http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6806
and the labbin' tech of http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6901_1

Hope you guys enjoy the new season of Pre-classic space.  (it will be better
publicized than last year :-D )

Chris <><

P.S. For those who don't know, I started building ships last year that
"bridged the gap" between Life On Marz to Classic Space.  Just for fun.  It
yielded a few models:
The LL-X1 (grandpa to big CS ships):

The LL-818 (father to the 918):

The Starfleet Voyager X1 (uncle to the Starfleet Voyager):

The Gamma IV Laser Craft (neighbor to Gamma V Laser Craft):

The Z1-Patrol Craft (total stranger to the X1 Patrol Craft):

Chris, I really like this. That window works perfectly. Other nice details are the hatch with built in ladder and the use of those ball turret pieces as engines. Bruce (21 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

I curse you for how awesome this looks Chris ;) This totally hit the mark for the 'tween theme. As soon as I saw those ball sockets in the Ep II sets I thought 'rocket nozzle'. Looks like you thought the same and employeed them in a most excellent (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) Very inspiring, Chris. But I wonder- what did the pre-classic era do for land vehicles? It would be interesting to see what preceded the alien moon stalker and such. Any plans? Felix (21 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Hi Chris, Nice work. This is more along the lines of the stuff I want to work on. I'm really impressed by it. The one that impresses me the most is the LL-818. Very nice. :) I really like the white theme for it-- I'd like to see how some of it (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)
Re: Pre - Classic Space rears it's ugly head again

(...) These are getting better every time... this looks more like "realistic classic space" to me than "pre-classic space", which is a good thing IMHO. The cockpit windows on this one are killer. The engine clusters look very functional. I could (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Wow! That is all really nice. The style and color scheme of these, while not really near Classic Space in my book, is very cool. The new one I like a lot. The short, fat, bulbous look really works. And the interior is great, too. I really like how (...) (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

great stuff! Although I personally prefer black on blue or blue on white over grey/white. I liked the way you made the 45° angle work with wings and nose. I agree with the other guy, many concentrate on either the modular buildings or the killer (...) (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) What a cool little ship. Love the cockpit detailing. Actually the detailing all around is well done, especially the nozzles. As for the color choices, I really like the white. And it photographs well:) Joe Meno (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)
Re: Pre - Classic Space rears it's ugly head again

Chris, That Starfleet Voyager X1 just takes the cake! I really like what you have done. You made it modern, yet kept the soul of the original. Kudos! The reason that I like the Starfleet Voyager X1 is that the original was my first big Classic Space (...) (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) Damn that's fine. Quick, build some more! :) (...) I first saw your models in the Brickfest pictures just after I came out of my dark age. Needless to say I immediately put your brickshelf folder into my favourites and embarked on a search for (...) (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

Sweet! Words cannot express my amazement at your cockpit design. The effort and care taken with this ship is evident in even the smallest corners. Take care Soren (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) Wow. Functional AND beautiful. Masterfully done, Chris! Cheers, Paul (21 years ago, 22-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

I like the color (or lack of) scheme that you use throughout your works. I can definately tell your ships from others, mostly from the cool windows you use. Good intergration of angles and greebles. out Tony Knaak (2 URLs) (21 years ago, 23-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

That ship really gives a shaky feeling, looks like it is glued together! In a nice and proper way that is. I perticularly Like the use of the ball sockets as thrusters. Last year you set the style guide... Now your first child has been born! I think (...) (21 years ago, 23-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)
Re: Pre - Classic Space rears it's ugly head again

This pre-classis space stuff is way cool. I like the washed out coloring. Though if a NASA-esque group built this, there'd likely be some gold insulation foil somewhere on the ship to add a splash of color. I've actually been thinking of building in (...) (21 years ago, 23-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)
Re: Pre - Classic Space rears it's ugly head again

Okay...I know I've already posted for this, but I have to do it again. I LOVE this thing. Having a chance to go back and really pick out the details (dual hatch entry, inset science stations, the venting of the engines), I have to say that it's (...) (21 years ago, 23-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) as always, your stuff is amazing. i happen to like this one because of its compact size (ezier to digest). your canopy usage rocks (again), i really love how roomy those canopies make the spacecraft interior. none of that cramped space that (...) (21 years ago, 24-Jan-03, to lugnet.space)
