Hello!
Thought I would post a pic of one of my latest creations, PT 109. This is the
same torpedo boat made famous during WWII by being piloted by John F. Kennedy,
and its subsequent sinking and heroic actions by its crew.
This is my first attempt at building a military themed model! It is also unique
as it is built to minifigure scale. There are many working elements that give
this a higher level of playability than most of my glued creations.
-the guns pivot and/or turn
-the gun turrets accomodate a minifigure inside the turrets
-the roof of the area behind the captains wheel is removable
-the lifeboat comes off as well
There are more views on brickshelf for those that are intersted:
www.brickshelf.com/gallery/mwv1970/PT109
It was pretty fun to build and I am pleased with how it turned out. Let me know
what you think! I will possibly be doing more military themed models in the near
future as well.
Thanks,
Bill Vollbrecht

Thats great! I love the detailing and I particularly like the white lettering
at the bow.
Some people dont care for the pixellated hull profile, but I dont mind it so
much because it preserves the LEGO-ness of the ship.
Very nice job!
Dave!

Bill,
This is great, I wish I could see even more, maybe the inside of the turret and
some more details.
Thanks,
George

Hey Dave,
Funny thing about the lettering. When I built the prototype I left it blank, in
case the client wanted just a Navy PT instead of specifically PT-109. He saw the
prototype pic a said he did want it as PT-109.
I figured, as I glue it I can design the lettering and glue as I go... Big
mistake! I got the entire hull and the top deck glued before I realized I forgot
to do the lettering! Several hours with a Dremel and chisel later I had the
entire bow section demolished. It was a pain in the butt, but it was better than
rebuilding the entire thing again! Not only would that taken too long, it would
of been a huge waste of my stock of light grey.
Luckily it all turned out fine in the end!

Hey George,
Did you check out the pics on my brickshelf folder? I have a few more views on
there. Not much, but at least there are a couple. Check it out here:

Unfortunately, I dismantled the prototype after I glued this, so unless I head
to Northern California to visit the model, these are the only pics I will have!
Thanks!
Bill
