Chatting with LEGO friends, I realized that even seasoned LEGO builders often
ignore all the possibilities of the Brick Remover... Here is a
little tutorial on this cute
device.
Enjoy !

Also, you can cut them in half (would require two separators, as some excess
plastic gets taken away in the saw blade) to get to plates stuck in corners. I
havent done this but I imagine a guide built out of bricks and a hobby saw
would do the trick, with some cleanup with fine grit sandpaper to make the cut
edge nice and smooth. :-)
I heard this from another AFOL who I believe has done this, but I cant remember
who it was...

I made one out of "old" LEGO parts that I no longer like and
glued up a brick separator for this kind of job.
Why cut up and ruin a perfectly good brick separator when you
can your recycle old LEGO with tooth marks and scratches :-)

I wasnt aware that you could use it to remove tiles until I saw Frank Filz
doing just that.

Hmm, a few things:
- You _can_ use a brick separator to remove a jumper from the middle of
a large plate or baseplate, you just have to be a little careful.
- You _can_ use a brick separator to remove a large plate from the
middle of a large plate or baseplate, you just have to pry gently at
several spots around the edge until it lifts enough that you can get a
fingernail under it.
Something you didn't mention at all:
- You can use a brick separator to pop tiles from the middle of a large
plate or baseplate. The brick separator catches the thin lip at the base
of the tile. Several people have said "Gee, I didn't know you could do
that!" when I casually popped a tile off (hi Cary!).

You can also use it to get tiles off from the middle of plates.

I was really surprised how many kids on the summer Road Show have been using
them as part of creations. Ive seen many creatures (beavers, rabbits, birds)
that all use them. Very amazing.

Ha! I knew that one!
It's especially useful when you have a bunch of tiles grouped together and can't
bend whatever's underneath them to pop them off. I like to put tiles between
train tracks, for instance, when I'm creating road crossings or swanky train
stations. They're nearly impossible to remove by hand if they're 1x2 or 2x2.

Great tutorial!
The second image down on the left demonstrates prying apart two same-size plates
by using two separators. It is also possible to do it with only one separator
and two additional plates. Just stack the extra plates like stairs, then put the
stuck plates on the "step." This creates a one-plate height difference that the
separator can use for leverage. Not sure how to easily illustrate that, but I
find it much more convenient to be able to use a single separator, since I
almost never have two separators in the same place.
Ascii art (which won't quite preview correctly, but maybe it'll get the point
across):

|_ /
+|/
# O O O
Seen from the side, where "+" and "#" are 1x2 plates,
"O O O" is a 2x3 plate, and "X X X X" is a 2x4 plate.

Nice one Philo!

This one: http://www.philohome.com/remover/remover6.htm
I just hold the single separator in hand and use the thumb to press away the
bottom 1 x n
Works like a charm and can be done with one hand and one separator.

I do that too when I can't put my hand on a second separator (I'm rather messy).
But I try to avoid that as I have soft thumbs !
