I get my lugnet news through email for the few groups Im interested in.
Thing is, FTX tends to mangle links slightly. Would it be possible to run
messages through an HTML filter before sending them out? For those that
prefer speed over beauty, it could be an option (HTML on/off).
A neat, but maybe uneccesary extra could be a reply to this post link at
the bottom that directs you to the relevant web interface window.

How about if the FTX-to-HTML filter is run at the time of posting, rather than
at the time of rendering, and it could be stored on the NNTP server as a
multipart/alternative with 3 parts: FTX, HTML, and a plain-text version
(generated from the HTML version probably). This would also speed up rendering
of the posts for users, and the plain-text version could be used in things like
search results and summaries. Disk is cheaper than CPU nowadays...
Another plus: if FTX syntax rules are changed, theres no need to re-generate
the old posts HTML and TXT versions, so no worries about backward
compatibility.
