Thanks to the TRU BOGO50 sale, I got a lot of ZNAP last night..

2x 3502 Bi-wing                ($1.97 + $1.97 - $0.99)
2x 3503 Mini-sonic             ($1.97 + $1.97 - $0.99)
2x 3504 Hook-truck             ($1.97 + $1.97 - $0.99)
   3531 Tri-bike               ($2.97)
   3532 Jet-ski                ($2.97 - $1.49)
   3571 Blackmobile with Motor ($29.99)
   3591 Heli-transport         ($19.99 - $9.99)

(names are from Lugnet.. TRU called them "green jet" "red car" etc.)

I've played with all but the two large sets..  it's ..umm. interesting?
different?  at least somewhat fun.

My initial observations:
It snaps together well, although a bit difficult to take apart.  I found
that after putting pieces together and taking them apart a few times
they were much easier to work with.  The parts are certainly
interesting.  There are fewer parts than I was expecting.  It reminds me
of the Construx (not sure of spelling) that I had back in the mid-80s.
I like the instruction booklets.  Instructions for lots of models, plus
pictures of models without instructions.  Some of the models are really
cool.   Others are boring.  Others are just strange.  (Is that an
ice-skater or a spaceship or a rabbit?)  I'm not sure I like the use of
photographs instead of CAD drawings, since parts are harder to make out
and the perspective isn't always great.  I really like the "ghosted"
image of the complete model overlaid on each step.  It's nice to know
what part of something you're working on.

This stuff looks like fun.  I probably won't use it much on its own, but
I think I'll be integrating this stuff into my Technic models, and even
some of my System stuff.  (For example, when I get around to building
the amusement park which I've been planning to build for a few months
now, the ZNAP parts will be useful.)

I wonder how long it will be before we see some of the ideas from ZNAP
show up in Technic, like the flexible axles.  I'm guessing some of the
new rounded beams from the 2000 Technic was inspired by ZNAP.

(...) You might check your receipt, Tim. I think the 3591 was at $30. I don't know about the 3571, but the 3581 went for the $20 level at my TRU purchase. I found some "regular" technic to double on the sale offer, making sure to get like-priced (...) (24 years ago, 26-Apr-00, to lugnet.znap)
