Znap IS LEGO - made by LEGO (I've never heard of a company called 'Znap'). It
is an extension of Technic. My comment about it interfacing through Technic
was taken slightly out of context. If you were working with a Duplo block, you
wouldn't be able to put any regular Lego pieces onto it until you put a 2x
Lego brick as interface. With Znap, you can't put any Lego pieces onto it
until after attaching a Technic piece as interface.
All of the Znap rod/beam pieces have the same clip/axle holes as Technic.
Where cross axles are used, the standard Technic axles work fine. There are
several common Technic pieces within most of the Znap sets.
Construx (made originally by Fisher Price) uses the same pin-into-end-of-beam
method of construction as Znap. The similarities between Construx and Znap
include the way that hinges and connectors look, the shapes chosen for some of
the beams, etc. The similarities are interesting - unfortunately, one of those
similarities is that Construx died - as Znap is/has too. I find this very
unfortunate. I think that Znap, like Fabuland is just a bit ahead of it's time
and I expect that in a couple of years the laments applied to Fabuland will
also apply to Znap.
One other thing, the 'ugly' wheels make superb jet fan nacelle detail pieces.
And, the 1999 sets include some new wheels which more closely resemble the
'silver' wheels used in some of the newer Technic sets (although they are not
silver).

I noticed that Construx is made by Mattel, more known for Barbie dolls, so I guess that has nothing to do (...) (24 years ago, 28-Feb-00, to lugnet.znap, lugnet.build, lugnet.general)
