I was looking at the items and was surprised by the prices for the Lego Deluxe
Brick Box, 6167, and Duplo Deluxe Brick Box, 5417 - $44.99 each! That price
is inline price per piece for a theme set, but much higher then bulk buckets
have been in the past, more than twice as high.
Is this a new pricing policy? A way to profitability?
Also, the new road plates, 7280 and 7281, are now $9.99 a set, Werent these
only $4.99 a set when introduced?
What do you think?

It is a little strange, especially considering that those sets come in a
cardboard box and not a plastic container. The higher prices for basic bricks do
seem to be in line with the LEGO Factory P@B
prices, though. If this is a profitability move, it seems a little
short-sighted. I always thought the bulk buckets were a loss leader intended as
a gateway into the hobby.
As for the road plates, they were indeed $5 when they came out, and were raised
to $8 last year, according to the
LUGNET guide. Has
any other set ever doubled in price over its production run? Why this set?
