Does anyone know how to make Bayonets?

I'm doing a Civil War scene but I've run across and interesting dilema. Most
Civil War charges were accomplished with bayonets fixed to the rifles,
however, the task of fitting any sort of blade to the lego rifles is a
little involved. Does anyone have any ideas that would accomplish this
without building a bulky contraption at the end of the rifle ( all I've been
able to come up with so far ) ?

| (...) Hmm.... I know SOMEBODY had posted about this before. They came up with an ingenious method, using *gasp* modified lego. Try searching through historical posts. I'm pretty sure I grabbed the link and bookmarked it, but I can't find it now..... (23 years ago, 20-Aug-01, to lugnet.western)
