Just wanted to give a brief report on our first day of display.
As usual, we're set up in a great location right inside the main museum
entrance. But this time, we've got a LOT of competition for kid's
attention! Crowds were busy but not unmanagable, a lot like a normal train
show for us. But they're expecting twice the crowd today as they had
yesterday, so I'm sure we'll be hopping today.
The new town layout looks great (pictures to come), Dan Siskind, Bill
Toenjes and Stein Settergren did yeoman's work in rebuilding the track bed
beneath the two mainlines. Conan worked on setting up our 3volt power
supply, using Cat5 network cables and boxes mounted on the bottom of each
table. Me? I, uh, was there! <grin>
No 'Guest Trains' yet, but we're hoping for some today.
In the real world, "Thomas" managed to derail one of the passenger coaches
he was pulling. No injuries to train or people, but broke a rail and tore
up a couple of ties. The museum folks called their friends at the BNSF,
when I left yesterday afternoon everyone was confident they'd have
everything back in shape by this morning.
