I was looking around your site and foound the Motorized Train Bumper. This
is a really cool concept. On a train display this might be fun for the
visitor to control. Sling shot aa unwilling lone train car on to the main
line in front of a fast moving train. What a crash! And the crowd goes wild!
Seriously I was looking at it and I have a solution to your motor resetting
the mecahnism. Remove the one rack element closet to the bumper (looks like
a 2x2 round). When the arm is move backwards it will run out of rack before
grinding up the bumper. To insure that the arm can be re-engaged, add a
rubber band (LEGO brand of course) such that it streathes just before the
last rack moves past the gear. This will cause the rack to be pushed against
the gear reguardless of how long the motor runs in the reverse direction.
You'll hear a clicking niose as the gear kicks the arm backward and the
rubberband pulls it into the teeth of the gear, but little to no harm is done.
