I'll field this question :o)  Those plates you listed are medium rare, pretty
hard to come by these days, but don't worry! For starters, if you're building
a freight car that's only that long, just build it with normal plates and stick
two wheel sets and two magnet/couplers on, it can still corner just fine.
But, once you start getting into the larger ones (around 32 studs) you
have to make the wheels so they can rotate. Now, for engines, it's either
use a wagon plate, or build your own. How? Use those technic bricks, or
3 technic plates stacked on top of eachother. How you support that stack
of technic plates is your choice (you actually only need two plates
stacked, the 4 by 2 ones) It usually won't matter what colour the plates
are because they'll be covered up from the bottom, and the top in the
case of an engine. Same story for a boxcar, but what if it's a flatbed, or
maybe a tanker, maybe you just don't like the looks of those ugly technic
holes? Fear not, simply throw out you bogie plates and pop on a
black/grey turntable to the wheels. Presto! Turning wagons which can
have any thickness you want for the base now too, in case you wanted a
thin one for some reason, you're not stuck with the standard, also you
could build them with rare colours, i actually have an orange engine built,
the whole bottom plate is orange too :). Well, i hope this helps, any more
questions either e-mail me or post, also, here;s my icq#:  87143237

Do you just build them up out of plates, or just forget about putting a
hole in the bottom?
Thanks.

p.s. If anybody can point me to where I could got the above items,
    it would be GREATLY appreciated.
