Please let me know what you think.

Well, I like the way you got the color striping worked into the body
color, especially around the rear radiator flares.

But I don't quite know about that nose. Are they really that rounded nd
stubby?

That's not a very good pic. It has the safety (or comfort) cab which is
full width. ARE there any narrow nose dash 9s?

Here's a narrow nose dash 8 ( a C32-8 to be exact)

Here's a dash 9 list for CSX
http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/html/CW44-9.html
and from that list, this is an OK shot:

Here's a C39-8 in Conrail colors with narrow nose, it clearly shows the
top of the nose is very flat and there is no side taper, the front is
just a bit pointed.

So why am I harping on noses? Well because I think they're critical and
most non railfans don't get them right. Get the nose right and a lot of
other stuff can be forgotten, it's the thing many people notice first
on  a loco (and on a person!)

And I think you might be exaggerating the cooling fans a bit, I'm not
sure I'd use 2x2 round bricks in that way. Try using the 24 tooth gear
there (preferably the one with the bent teeth

I didn't find a good top down shot but I wasn't trying very hard. Here's
one of a C40-8W

Note that there are no circular fans AT ALL up there, they're all inside
the radiator bulge at the rear, also note how far back the airhorn is.

Larry, Thanks for the great feedback. I am not much of a trainhead (Lego or otherwise) yet, and those sites and pictures that you pointed me to were very cool and very useful. I imagine that future attempts to build "realish" looking train stuff (...) (25 years ago, 12-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)
