Over the holidays, I did my usual spend a day shopping in Boston, and did
some transit riding. I wish I had brought along my camera though. One
station which is very much worth a visit with a camera is Boylston on the
Green Line. There is some MOW or retired equipment there. Each side of the
station has two pieces of equipment, the outbound side has a yellow wooden
box car like vehicle, and an old PCC car. The inbound side has two different
pieces (didn't get too close a look because I didn't stop at that station).
Going outbound, I got the front seat, so got a nice view of the tunnel. I
also rode the red line, and the commuter rail. I haven't paid a lot of
attention over the years, but I think there are a few other stations which
have MOW or retired equipment (I recall some equipment at North Station).

The best place I can suggest for anyone in the Toronto, Ont area to visit for
ideas of light rail equipment is the Halton County Radial Museum, near
Rockwood, Ont.

First rate, they have lots of ex-TTC stuff, including #4000, the first Toronto
PCC.  They also have a fair amout of other stuff from various places, including
Sudbury, and Oshawa Street Railway stuff.  My fondest memory is about 1989,
when we went to HCR after the dinner at Milton Museum (Great Canadian Antique
Tractor Field days, we were exibiting), and they ran trams until something like
1 AM for us :)  It made for -long- sunday...but riding around on the Brill
(open tram) at late night was wonderful.

If I remember right, that was the year that we replicated a 1960's UK scene,
with our Traction engine drawing around our railway engine...it looked just
about right, but it made for a heavy pull on the field.  Tall unmowed grass and
pulling 3-4 kids with a 1 1/2" model tractor don't work too well.

Also,  The TTC used to have most of the MOW stuff for the subway stored at
Davisville Station, where it was occasionally visible.  Now, I think it is all
kept at Greenwood yard, such things as: Tokyo Rose; the Garbage Train, the
track ballaster (I built parts for it :), and the twin red NBR cars that they
kept for historical purposes.

At one time, you could see the project 4200(?)(Harbourfront) Streetcars being
rebuilt, at the  Hillside shops...they have nice big glass windows that face
the street, and you could look right inside.  The PCC scrap lineup was also
there, now long since gone to be recycled.

You literally need a certificate from god to see the inside of TTC shops...I
knew some people in the TTC and have never been invited to go for a unofficial
tour even.
