I'm currently designing a set of passenger cars, and it could be very beneficial
to me to be able to have my train base one plate lower than one would normally
be able to have using the standard LEGO wheels. This would, of course, lead me
to using the 9v train wheels outside of their normal housing in a brick built
wheel truck. Like this:

So therein lies the dilemna. I've been told I can't use the RC train wheels and
axles together in a brick built wheel truck because the wheels tend to fall off
the axle; so I have to use 9v wheels.
But I don't have the money to buy 9v train wheels enough to run on all the cars,
especially since I'd be tossing the train housing aside after pulling the wheels
and axles out.
My thought is if I could buy the RC wheels and axles off S@H, which run pretty
cheap, I could then swap out 9v wheels and axles for RC wheels and axles on some
of my other MOCs.
So my question is this - Can the RC wheels and axles be replaced in a 9v train
wheel housing without loss of performance? Are they even compatible enough to
swap?
Or is there some super secret trick to making the RC wheels stay attached to the
axles so I don't have to bother with swapping?

| (...) snip (...) Tony, I used 36 9volt train wheels to make my Schnabel Car. (URL) was left with 36 wheel housings that I could not think of a use for. Then I remembered that pick a brick on Shop at Home had the RC train wheels and axles for sale so (...) (17 years ago, 18-Aug-07, to lugnet.trains)
