Hey,
A couple of years ago, I built the Queensland Tilt Train and James Mathis came up with a
great idea on how to simplify the
tilting mechanism.
Ever since I’ve been wanting to use this tilt design to built the Swedish X2000
high speed tilting train and now I finally got around to it. I don’t have the
bricks for a complete train, so you’ll have to do with a passenger car
prototype. Anyone who wants to use the design to finish the model, go ahead, I’d
love to see it. Reference pictures can be found in
this folder. My own
subfolder with reference pics seems to have disappeared on Brickshelf somehow
(?)

The principle is the same: A high
pivot point,
train weights as close to the tracks as possible
(pic) and
gravity takes care of the rest!
This movie and
this picture
show the tilting in action, but they don’t really give the mechanism full
credit: It looks much better when you just stand and watch it :-) Be sure to
check out the remaining movies as well.
The simplified tilt mechanism nearly doesn’t take up any inside space, so unlike
the Queensland Tilt Train, this one has
interior.
Using a TECHNIC axle, it is possible to exactly adjust the height of the pivot
point. As you may have guessed, the car is built almost entirely on bricks from
the Santa Fe cars, yet the design looks a lot different.
