On a whim, I dug it out again last night to see if I could get it working.
Turns out, a technic liftbar with a little bit of tinfoil attached to the
bare wires was all I needed. The tinfoil rides flat along the rails, sending
power to the cable attached to the motor. Not pure, and not elegant, but

A very good idea indeed. I like it very much. Thank you for sharing :)
How is it doing with switchpoints?? and with bridges ramps? Do you observe
corrosion of the surface of the rails due to eventual electric arcs? Interested
by these answers and considering seriously to build one.
Anybody using DCC could tell me if this kind of connection to the rails could
work fine with DCC? (Im close to buy an Uhlenbrock system, but still earning
for :) soooo expensive...)
