Last night I decided to redesign my point to point trolley program. I
decided to connect the three RCX outputs in parallel (as suggested by
some of LDCC documentation). I also decided to use one of sensor inputs
to set the power setting.
When I start the program, the RCX listens for ten seconds and counts the
number of times sensor three is pressed. That count is converted to a
power setting, and then the program starts moving the trolley. When the
trolley reaches a sensor at the end of the line, the program stops the
trolley, waits anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds reverses the power, and
send the trolley towards the other end of the line.
Everything was going well until I notice that every once and a while the
trolley really picked up speed. According to the LCD view panel, all
three outputs never change their power settings (for example they always
read two) even when the trolley speeds up. I removed the power setting
portion of the program, but the trolley still surged every once and a
while. Unfortunately, I was never able to discern a pattern. For
example, during one experiment where the program was run for a total of
xxx starts, I counted the number of times the trolley started moving
after a stop at the end of the line before the trolley decided to go
fast. The results were as follows:
5 normal starts
the 6th start was fast
8 more normal starts
the 15th start was fast
3 more normal starts
the 18th start was fast
16 more normal starts
the 35th start was fast
I decided to stop counting after 35
So, anyone have any idea what is going on here? Oh yeah, I am using an
RCX 1.0 with the firm0328.lgo firmware, and MacNQC 3.0r2.
Thanks,
Chris
