Have you seen any of the Brickbarons trains ? They don't use track. They are 16
wide ,works of art. He uses tiles for track.

There are some bricklink sellers that sell good used train motors .For as low as $10us And they may even throw in some curved track. Sorry , I just sold all my spare 9v trains.
