John didn't say which question he was answering. As it turns out, this
trick works BOTH to electrically insulate track sections AND to let them
be mechanically separated.
If you only want electrical insulation your options depend on your
purity. The impure solution is to use a bit of black electrical tape,
cut down, on the rails, which blocks the section of track from
connecting electrically to the next but allows a good mechanical
connection.
Slightly less impure is to use the part of a sticker that is left behind
after you remove the sticker. It typically is already long and thin and
has adhesive already. I will go this impure, I used one for a license
plate on my yellow and blue trucks.
Completely purist is much harder. There is no way of getting mechanical
contact but not electrical without SOME modification, so the "gap by one
stud" option, or two turnouts back to back, is the only way to go.
Hope that helps.

| John, Larry, Derick... thanks a lot for your help. I think I go with the most impure solutions: electrical tape and exacto knife. This because I don't like to keep the tracks one stud apart. My Lego ethic too doesn't preclude removing parts, after (...) (25 years ago, 30-Sep-99, to lugnet.trains)
