Hey all,
After a very long weekend I have finally gotten a second to sit down and relax
so I figured I would give you the low down on the event as well as my plans for
next year.
Friday night was hectic to say the least but also very organized. Setup started
around 3pm and went without a hitch. Everyone showed up on time and we even had
trains running on all 4 layouts before most of us left at 10pm.
Saturday morning was simply hectic. There was still a lot of things that needed
to be done such as skirting on most of the layouts but luckily everything was
ready to go by 9am. The crowd showed up earlier than expected and I was
pleasantly surprised to find out that attendance had doubled from last years.
The play area was also far more successful than I ever could have imagined.
There was a good size crowd around it the whole day and we ran out of name cards
before 2pm. I was really surprised to see that the heaping pile of bricks that I
had put in the table earlier in that day, was almost completely gone. It was bad
enough that most of the creations had to be disassembled so the kids would have
something to play with on Sunday.
Sunday was also a surprise. The crowd showed up really early comparatively to
most Sunday train shows and we had a full house by 10:30. Again the play area
was packed and every one was very happy. I was also surprised to find that we
had doubled Sundays attendance as well.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in this show. It was more of a
success than I ever could have imagined and I couldnt have done it without your
help.
Next year,
Next year I would like to see some minor improvements most of which will be easy
since there is so much time to plan it now. I would like to see the return of
both Michlug and Michianalug with larger layouts as we talked about at the show.
I would also like to add a couple of classes for club members and possibly the
public such as: getting started with Lego trains, adding realism to your layout
and so on. I would also like to expand the play area but I will need help with
getting more brick. Anyway these are just ideas and since I have 12 months to
plan, they will stay ideas for now.
Below are links to picture galleries that I have found of the event. I have also
taken close to 100 photos but it will take me a while to get them up online.

| Ondrew, you and everybody involved deserve a big round of applause for all your work to organize this event. It looked awesome. From the handouts table in the lobby, to the way you guys handled questions from the visitors, and the spiffy details on (...) (21 years ago, 10-Dec-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
