Hi Folks,
Posts are regularly made about how to keep 12V conductor rails clean, as
the motor bogie does not like much dirt.
My solution is to use a 'Relco' unit, as sold for use on model railways.
It requires a 16v AC supply. The Lego controller's 13v AC supply works just as
well, finally a use for that socket!
Just set it up as per the instructions that come with the unit, and hey-presto!!
Much better train performance.
My trains can now run dead slow all round my track, even over sets of points and
the crossover track.
I used to use my own design of track cleaning wagon, which was basically a 4
wheel box van. It contained 2 loco weights, which helped keep a pad of felt,
which was soaked in methylated spirit, in contact with the conductor rails. Not
as effective as the 'Relco' unit, I used the 7722 4.5v battery loco to haul the
wagon to clean the conductor rails before I started to run the 12v electric
trains.
Hope this info is useful,
Mike.

| (...) since I never heard of a relco I searched for it and found this page: (URL) the/a relco isnt really cleaning your track. It is just eliminating bad contact spots for a while and it will even get more dirt on the tracks. So although it seems (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.trains)
