For a while I could not figure out if those red windshields on the cable car
were 4 or 6 wide. Now I'm leaning towards 6 wide.
Also, compare these to the light gray windshelds used on Lego train designer
Jorn Thomsen's electric passenger car:
http://www.lego.com/eng/trains/legoengineers/showpicture.asp?id=jt&picid=3
(URL pulled from
http://www.lego.com/eng/trains/legoengineers/profiles.asp?id=jt ).
The piece on Jorn's prototype look like a "Train Front Sloping Top 2917"
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/2917
that has had its bottom fourth hacked off.
At first glance, the new windsheilds and Jorn's prototype look pretty
similar.
As Richard pointed out, the part also appears to be in some Jack Stone 2003
sets.
See:
4657 Fire Squad HQ, in red, on the red engine on the right
http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Set=4657-1
4652 Tow Truck, in orange (!)
http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Set=4652-1
4654 Tanker Truck - the prototype box here shows *no windsheld* part, but I
would not be surprised if the new part shows up here in yellow.
http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Set=4654-1
In 4652 Tow Truck, the windshield looks like a 6w x 5l x 5h (?) BURP. It
also looks like it has a row of 4 studs on the "nose" side. The cable car in
the SpiderMan and the fire truck in the HQ sets looks like 1x4 tiles are
attached on the front ends.
It will be interesting to see what this part exactly turns out to be.
