Yes the track can be modified although it would make more sense to just
order 9v track and save the nightmare. If you want to run newer 9v train
cars on 4.5v track there shouldnt be much problem as long as you have a
4.5v train motor pulling it. However if you would rather modify 4.5v track
for 9v motors hears how:
Most hobby shops carry a rack of assorted brass in various shapes. What you
will be looking for is 1/8-inch u channel. Be sure to take a piece of the
4.5v straight track with you to make sure it fits correctly. This works very
well in short segments in my engine repair shop. I quite honestly dont know
how well this would work on a full loop and I've never used more than one
piece of the brass in a row but it might be worth a try.
