Well, I noticed that the top of the boiler in teh LDraw pic is
horizontal, and the same height as the firebox top, and in the model as
built the firebox is a plate higher than th eboiler top, and there is a
step in the boiler top about halfway along. It looked a bit odd to me
and I wondered if you had built it originally the way the LDraw pic is,
and it didn't look right that way.

OK, now I have to go check my books and loook at pics of streamlined
A4's...

Hmmm, yes, the cab top, firebox top and the back half of the boiler top
are all the same height, then tehre's a slight slope down to the chimney
in the front half of the boiler.

Ahh, I see what you mean now.  Yep, i did build it flat on the top
previously, but im not sure how i felt about the look of it.  As of
right now, i only have two pics to work from, and they are 3/4s views,
and not side views.  I think i decided to go with the gradual slope
because i wanted the make the nose slope a bit more streamlined than
what i had in the ldraw pic.  To do this was to ditch the second height
of the witch dresses(the 2x2x2 slopes i think), and add some 45 degree
slopes.  What way do you think it looks the best?  with the two hieght
of the witches dresess, or the way i built it?   When i get out of
summer session here, i will be working on this loco until i get it right
:)
Also, what do you think about the handrails?  good or no good?

What books do you have that have good pic of this locomotive?  im
curious, since the only pics i have of it are the 2, plus the memorys i
have visiting some muesem in England somewhere.  I think i also have a
Hornby model railroad catalog lying around the house somewhere with a
silver A4, and a green A4........... HEY TLG! MORE SILVER! :)

ps-where they painted any other colors besides silver, green and blue?
Crimson would be a elegant color to do one in.  The lego red would be
too bright :(

(...) The problem is that Lego makes it *very* difficult to build things in proportion, lengthwise. The nose slope should actually be much shallower ("witch dresses" at the most for the bottom layer) but you'd end up having half the length of the (...)
