Thanks. Ever since I bought the Recon Mech I've been trying to think of
something to do with the sand-red bricks. There weren't really enough
pieces in the one set to do much, though Thomas Cook beat me to it with his
sandblasting tank. The bulk packs were a boost, but you still can't do much
detail with plain bricks - especially the 2xn ones that came out first! At
least with this model I could use some clever internal stuff (in black) to
show some interesting features on the outside.
The colour doesn't have all that many uses - it's not even a good brick red.
The only thing it reminded me of is red lead, the corrosion resistant paint
that pre-dates Hammerite. I remember seeing undersides of caravans around
Mablethorpe and fences and gates in industrial or mining towns painted in it
(though they're all black Hammerite now!). The only other thing I could
think of were old British Rail livestock wagons.
I did another neat wagon when I first got some orange bricks - I'll shoot
that one next.
