Re: Converting an Emerald Knight to run on 9 volt track

(...) Ted Mainly due to the fact that the RPM will be different from each motor, meaning that one motor will be working much harder than the other, thus lessening the life of the overworked motor. Also the torque and friction is much higher in the (...) (15 years ago, 30-Nov-09, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Converting an Emerald Knight to run on 9 volt track

(...) Good question, Ted. That is what Ross did with the old 4.5 motor block-- he simply cut the ends off of a 4.5 volt wire and a 9 volt wire, spliced them together, and ran the 4.5 motor off of the power from the 9 volt train motor. JOHN (15 years ago, 30-Nov-09, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Converting an Emerald Knight to run on 9 volt track

(...) Peter- Very cool. And "they" said it could not be done! Question: What about leaving the 9V motor unit intact and still running a wire from it to the Emerald Night's motor, giving 2 motors in parallel with more pulling power and saving the (...) (15 years ago, 30-Nov-09, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Pulling power of different train systems

(...) Hey, Benn- I'll tell you what I'd like to see-- some third party coming in and dropping in beefier motors in the existing train motor. That would be cool. Come to think of it, didn't somebody actually try that? I've heard from those in the (...) (15 years ago, 30-Nov-09, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Pulling power of different train systems

(...) ... (...) This is an interesting discussion. Keep in mind that the 9v system was also designed for kids, which is why the motors have so little pulling power. Like you, I've looked at the 8866 and figured it would be of little use to me. But I (...) (15 years ago, 30-Nov-09, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
