Plus a remote is usually in the hands of the controller, so can be re-targetted as necessary - whereas an RCX controller would most likely be fixed to the layout somewhere, and disguised as an object of some kind on the layout. I believe that there is a rather large battery box cavity in the interior of the engine above the base plate. Whats nice is that you get to this cavity via the bottom of the train thru the hanging tank. So you have the 6x8 "tank" below, the IR (...) (21 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)
