Hey,
Bought the 7897 Passenger Train the other day and immediately realized that it
would take only a few modifications to turn the German ICE-like design into the
Danish IC4 passenger train. Here’s the result:

This is my third version of the IC4 train. I previously built a
6-wide prototype and an
8-wide complete model.
I’ve reused the stickers from the second model. Old reference pictures
here. It seems, once
again, that Brickshelf somehow deleted my reference subfolder at some point
during modification. Can anyone explain why this happens?
I usually build complicated SNOT fronts for my trains, so I feel a bit like
cheating just putting a blue sticker on a big train front brick. But that’s what
LEGO does, and it actually looks pretty neat IMO.
I’ve lengthened the third car by six studs to make it just as long as the first.
To do this I needed to alter the boogies and flip the 8x6 train bottom part
upside down and use as roof.

shows the details. The same trick is used to replace the skylight in the roof of
the center car, see
this picture.
By the way, I’m quite dissapointed with the quality of the train front part
which creates a large gap to the rest of the car, see above. I emailed LEGO and
was told that they were aware of the problem, but that’s just how it is, nothing
to do about it. The pictures on the box, catalogue and building instructions
don’t show the gap, so I expected a replacement part. This is not the LEGO
quality I’m used to...
