eh? what happened to lego?

it's been about a year since i've been able to buy lego, but today i splurged,
and picked up set 4855 (the spiderman subway car). i feel dirty.
ignoring the awful new light grey (the dark grey was so-so), they just felt
cheap. the whole time i was putting the set together, all i could think of was
megabloks. from the awful light grey, to the overall feel of cheapness, to how
the colors in the instructions kept changing from black to dark grey, and back
to black again.
what happened? it's only been a year!
and i'm not even going to get into the flesh colored minifigs.
