I just got a copy of the new World City set 7030 “Squad Car” at Target. Actually I bought two - they are only $3.99 each. And it’s really a nice little set!

DECALS?

Yes, thankfully. I was hoping they were not printed bricks.

SET DESCRIPTION

I was worried that the “police” labels would be printed bricks, because I wanted the set for its parts, not for the police car. But luckily they are stickers, so all the parts are usable for other purposes.

SPECIAL ELEMENTS

The hood/bonnet and trunk/boot are made with a relatively new sloped 4x4 piece that is great for a 4-wide car. It’s a great part for any kind of MOC that needs this kind of sleek styling.

I also really like the headlight/taillight pieces, even though I think they are originally Jack Stone and thus not popular around here.

And even though they aren’t special or unique, the set contains FOUR (4) white 1x2/1x4 angle plates, which I have been wanting for a MOC I have been planning.

It also contains 1x2 tiles in trans-red and trans-blue, which I think is relatively uncommon.

IMPRESSION

I bought this set for parts, but when I built it, it makes a very nice looking car. Most LEGO cars are pretty cheesy, but this one is realistic (though as a 4-wide, a bit too narrow), and stylish. This is helped by the fact that there are very few studs showing - just 2 on top of the windscreen and 2 in the back where I would have put a 1x2 tile with a license plate decal if I had designed it.

The set was only 4 bucks, so I bought 2 of them, and now that I’ve opened it and built it and seen what’s included (and that it’s all stickers instead of printed bricks) I’m going to get more. The parts will be great for not only police cars, but space and train MOC’s as well.

As for playability, the car that you build from the instructions is a very sturdy little toy car. The red and blue light bar might come off if played with roughly, but otherwise it is quite stable and well designed for play.

The only error I found was not really an error, but a minor omission: I would have included a license plate for the back of the car. Currently there are two studs showing where the license plate rightfully belongs.

There were no extra elements.

CONCLUSION

I would recommend it as a stocking stuffer for a kid of the appropriate age, and also to AFOL’s as a parts supply due to its low price point.

I don’t collect LEGO sets as sets, just as parts supplies to build MOC’s with. Frankly I can’t imagine why anyone would collect LEGO sets and not build MOC’s, but I know such people exist... To each his/her/its own, I guess.
