Unless the U.S., where my 1950s-built house is considered "old", there are
towns in Europe that have been continuously inhabited for several centuries.
I've seen travelogue-ish shows on TV with footage of the annual festivals that
many of them have, which often include parades and fairs with people in
period costumes from the town's early history.
My guess is that the 1592 was designed to appeal to Europeans, and is just
lost on us "cultural youngsters" ;-)
