  New Crane...

I have been working on my next project... Terex Demag has introduced a new "twin" kit for the CC8800. This crane has a capacity of 3200 tons.... I have started my model of this monster! Check out the bs folder for any new progress.... (URL) is going (...) (17 years ago, 19-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Now theres a challenge! :-) (17 years ago, 19-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) I guess that was kind of a "bold" statement :D I can say that it is shaping up to be the biggest thing that I have ever built!! Keep checking the Brickshelf folder for further progres...I will be sure to keep all updated! Thanks! -Alvin. (17 years ago, 20-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

I can't see from your photos how you're stopping the main structure lifting off the base. Correct me if I'm wrong, but crane turntables hold the superstructure down so the load moment is transferred to the crawler base. I've seen photos of cranes (...) (17 years ago, 21-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) This is correct. Real cranes have roller bearings that are pinned in place that bear the weight and force of the superstructure where it is connected to the base. (...) I am going to use a threaded axle through the center to hold the plates (...) (17 years ago, 21-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Mine has that. (17 years ago, 21-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Yes, that is correct. (...) See also (URL) technique> - this allowed me to lift the whole crane base up by the superstructure. ROSCO (17 years ago, 21-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Great crane Rosco, shame their's no accompanying text. Steve (17 years ago, 21-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Thanks, read about it (URL) here>. ROSCO (17 years ago, 21-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) It worked pretty well for me on this one: (URL) all of these: (URL) have had no problems with the two parts coming apart....If you can tell by this pic, the red and white one is holding up a 8421 almost 8 feet away from the center of (...) (17 years ago, 22-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) That's a lot of cranes. Are they all yours? (...) I know I'd like to know. Steve (17 years ago, 22-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) <snip> (...) Oh. My. Goodness!!! That would hurt if it fell on you! Once again the LEGO builders--in whatever theme--never cease to astound me! Nicely done! Dave K (17 years ago, 22-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Yeah, Steve, those are all mine...That was at BF 06' They are all still together with the exception of the truck mounted one. The superstructure and boom is still together, but I tore apart the "truck" part of it to rebuild in the near (...) (17 years ago, 22-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Wish I did. :-) Steve (17 years ago, 22-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

Good lord! That is going to be some monster project! The forces and scale involved is quite impressive. Is that monorail track as the main pivoting guide? *faints* Eric Sophie (17 years ago, 27-Feb-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Posted some updated pics of the progress... Not the best resolution, but you can get the idea... Folder when moderated: (URL) link to one pic: (URL) (17 years ago, 9-Mar-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Posted some updated pics of the ballast cart.... (URL) updatetes to follow...(if I can ever get back to building) -Alvin. (17 years ago, 3-Apr-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) I have almost finished the Ballast cart: (URL) wish there was somewhere I could get a few of those new linear actuators. I really need them before August so I can finish this thing in time for Brickfest! Enjoy! -Alvin. (16 years ago, 5-Jun-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) This is of course a very impressive crane, all in terms of size, complexity and how well it is capturing the look of the real thing. When it's finished, please post a pic showing its maximum load capacity - do you think 2 or 3 UCS Tie (...) (16 years ago, 5-Jun-08, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Bob, thanks for the compliments! I think that 2 or 3 Tie Interceptors would me more than doable! I am expexting it to be able to lift around 10 lbs at the full height of 25 feet, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 lbs with only 5 feet of (...)   Re: New Crane...

Impressive supply of Technic beams you have there :-) The completed model is going to be a monster. Nice job. (...) I've been checking out the design of the dual CC8800, and it appears to not really require that the turntable resists overturning (...) (16 years ago, 12-Jun-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Yeah, check out my brickshelf folder....I still have all the cranes there with the exception of the 18000...So I have a good bit of beams :D (...) Yeah, I have seen the 2250's do the same thing. One thing that I have noticed about the (...) (16 years ago, 13-Jun-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Well, after many dissapointments over the weekend: (URL) finally got to raise the main boom on this creation: (URL) like I need to stiffen up the boom a bit... (URL) sill is going to be a fixed jib added for the lifting test, and a Luffing jib (...) (16 years ago, 7-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) faired better than my crane that decided to go down in a hurry (serious operator error :-) (URL) Looks like I need to stiffen up the boom a bit... (...) You're dealing with a relatively shallow boom cross section (i.e. thickness is fairly thin (...) (16 years ago, 9-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Ha! You're not a real crane builder till you've had at least one massive failure ;) Looking good Alvin. And you'd be surprised how much steel booms bend - check out this pic for an example: (URL) up a piece of paper along it to see the bend) (...) (16 years ago, 10-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) You mean plastic bends?? Dang :) I actually have had a good bit of success stiffening up the boom. The majority of the give in the boom was coming from the point where the sections are pinned together. The axles were flexing and letting the (...) (16 years ago, 10-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Ross, Check these pics out....the first one is my favorite "boom flex" photo, and the second one is a pic of the boom flexing on the original cc8800-Twin! Enjoy... (URL) (16 years ago, 10-Jul-08, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Well, It still is raining, so I had to try to lift the boom inside...Man what a strain this caused!!! She made it off the floor with a bit of added weight on the back :) (URL) pictures of the final version will be posted next week after (...) (16 years ago, 24-Aug-08, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.events)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Rain seams to be a pain for everyone recently. Especially me. Your crane looks amazing. I still haven't made any progress with my own crane. It's no wonder you needed extra ballast with all that weight sticking out the front. I'll look out for (...) (16 years ago, 26-Aug-08, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.events)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) Hey Alvin - now that you have completed your Terex-Demag CC-8800-1 3,200 ton crane, have you tested it with any loads yet? If you don't have 2 or 3 UCS Tie Interceptors handy, I guess you try using a couple of the largest Technic sets you have (...) (16 years ago, 28-Aug-08, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) You don't have to use Technic models you know, I use house bricks with a sling made from shoe laces. :-) (16 years ago, 28-Aug-08, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: New Crane...

(...) No load tests as of yet. I just got back from BrickFair. (URL) assembled it inside for the first time. I have built the first part of the spreader, which can be seen here: (URL) still have a bit of work left to do in order for it to be (...) (16 years ago, 2-Sep-08, to lugnet.technic)
